New York City — One Day, One Ship Stop

Exact street-level route from Cape Liberty (Bayonne NJ) → Downtown → Midtown → Uptown, plus the evening loop. Built for a hard all-aboard time.

1 · The Non-Negotiables

These four numbers drive everything. Everything else bends around them.

ALL-ABOARD — back on the ship 4:00–6:00 PM for the Abschluss.
Cape Liberty is in New Jersey. The drive in/out is 45–75 min and $60–85 each way. To be safe, leave Manhattan by ~3:00–3:15 PM and arrive back at the terminal by ~4:00 PM.
BOOK BEFORE YOU SAIL — Top of the Rock timed ticket.
Timed entry, ~$45–60. Sunset/golden-hour slots sell out days ahead. Entrance is on W 50th St between 5th & 6th Ave (not the main 30 Rock lobby).
The ferry is the NYC Ferry "St. George" route — a commuter boat on a timetable, not a tourist boat.
Boarding downtown is at Battery Park City / Vesey St landing (by Brookfield Place), NOT Wall St/Pier 11. ~$4.50, pay via the NYC Ferry app or dock ticket machine. Confirm the day's schedule before you go.
Two observatories is one too many. Do Top of the Rock (Empire State Building is in the photo). Skip the One World Observatory and the Empire State Building deck — you see both better from the Rock.

4 · Turn-by-Turn (exact streets, landmarks, error-catchers)

1Cape Liberty → Downtown (World Trade Center)Transfer · 30–75 min · $8–85
Start
Cape Liberty Cruise Port — 4 Port Terminal Blvd, Bayonne, NJ 07002
Option A — fastest: taxi/Uber direct to the World Trade Center. ~$60–85, 30–45 min, via the Holland Tunnel (or Staten Island → Verrazzano). Ask to be dropped at Church St & Vesey St.
Option B — budget (~$8, 60–75 min): taxi to the 45th Street Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station (Bayonne), ride to Exchange Place (Jersey City), then the PATH train one stop to World Trade Center. You exit directly into the Oculus.
⚠ There is no direct ferry from Cape Liberty. This leg is a car/rail leg — budget it into the day, twice.
✔ Landmark when you arrive: the white "ribs" of the Oculus and the One WTC tower.
2Downtown: 9/11 Memorial → Oculus → Wall St → Charging BullWalk · ~0.7 mi · 45–70 min with stops
Start
9/11 Memorial — 180 Greenwich St (between Liberty & Albany Sts)
1. From the north pool, face the One WTC tower. Walk east across the plaza to Greenwich St. (Pass the Survivor Tree — the callery pear — on the plaza.)
2. Turn right (south) on Greenwich St one block to Fulton St, then turn left (east). The Oculus white ribs are straight ahead — walk into its west doors.
3. Cross through the Oculus (2 min: restrooms + AC on the lower level). Exit the east doors onto Church St, then continue east one block to Broadway.
4. Turn right (south) on Broadway — this is the Canyon of Heroes ticker-tape parade route (bronze discs in the sidewalk). Pass St. Paul's Chapel (209 Broadway) on your left.
5. Continue south ~4 blocks to Wall St. Trinity Church (75 Broadway) is on your right at the corner.
6. At Wall St, turn left (east) for Federal Hall (26 Wall St) and the NYSE facade (11 Wall St). Then continue south on Broadway one more block to Bowling Green — the Charging Bull is at Broadway & Morris St.
⚠ Error-catcher: if you reach the Brooklyn Bridge ramps you went too far north; if you hit the Staten Island Ferry / Battery at the island's tip, you went 2 blocks too far south.
3Wall St → Battery Park City / Vesey St ferry landingWalk · ~0.6 mi · ~15 min
1. From the Charging Bull (Bowling Green), head back north up Broadway.
2. At Liberty St turn left (west) and walk toward the Hudson River.
3. Continue west past Church St, Greenwich St, under the West Side Highway to Battery Park City / Vesey St landing — on the water, just south of Brookfield Place. Look for the blue NYC Ferry sign.
⚠ This is the St. George route boarding point. Pier 11/Wall St does NOT serve Pier 79 — don't go there.
✔ Note the ~15 min backtrack to the ferry — it's the cost of seeing Wall St. If running late, skip Wall St and go straight from the Memorial to the ferry (2 blocks west of the Oculus).
4Ferry: Battery Park City/Vesey St → Pier 79NYC Ferry · St. George route · ~20–25 min · ~$4.50
Board
Battery Park City / Vesey St landing (blue NYC Ferry sign, west side of the highway)
Alight
Midtown West / W 39th St — Pier 79 (on the Hudson; the Intrepid aircraft carrier is 1 pier south at Pier 86)
Pay
NYC Ferry app or dock ticket machine — ~$4.50. MTA MetroCard/OMNY is NOT accepted. Buy before boarding.
Ride
Runs up the Hudson past the Statue of Liberty (port/left side), Downtown then Midtown. ~20–25 min.
⚠ Check the day's schedule and last boat. It's a commuter route — boats are roughly hourly off-peak.
✔ Stand on the left (river-facing) side for the best skyline + Statue of Liberty view.
5Pier 79 → Times SquareWalk · ~1.0 mi · ~15–20 min
1. From Pier 79 (W 39th St at the Hudson), walk east on W 39th St or W 42nd St.
2. Cross 11th and 10th Aves (past the Javits Center on 11th). Keep going east to 7th Ave.
3. At 7th Ave & 42nd St you're at the west edge of Times Square — the big screens start here.
⚠ Quick look by day (the characters, the Starbucks). Save the real visit for after dark — that's when it's worth it.
6Times Square → Top of the RockWalk · ~0.5 mi · ~10 min
1. Walk north on 7th Ave or 6th Ave to W 50th St.
2. Turn east on W 50th St to the entrance of Top of the Rock — between 5th & 6th Aves, under the red "30 Rockefeller Plaza" canopy. Not the 6th Ave door.
⚠ Have your timed ticket ready. Sunset slots sell out — if you didn't book ahead, go early and take whatever slot is left.
7Top of the Rock → 5th Ave → Apple Store → Central ParkWalk · ~0.6 mi · ~15 min + stops
1. Exit the Rock. Walk north up 5th Avenue — St. Patrick's Cathedral (E 51st St) is on your right, window-shopping all the way.
2. Continue north to E 59th St. The Apple Fifth Avenue glass cube is at 767 Fifth Ave — the southeast corner of Central Park.
3. Cross into Central Park at Grand Army Plaza (directly behind the cube).
✔ This whole stretch is one continuous stroll, not three separate stops.
8Central Park → back toward the shipSubway/taxi · 45–75 min
Option A: 1 train from 59th St–Columbus Circle downtown to WTC/Cortlandt St, then PATH + light rail back to Bayonne (~$8, ~75 min).
Option B: taxi/Uber from the park directly to Cape Liberty (~$70, 45–60 min).
⚠ Leave the park by ~2:45 PM to be safely back for the 4 PM Abschluss.
Evening loop — only if the ship is overnight or departs after ~11 PM. If it sails earlier, the whole loop is impossible; stay in the area near the terminal instead.
9Evening: Times Square at night → Top of the Rock (night)Walk · ~0.5 mi
1. Times Square after dark is the real thing — the billboards and neon are the whole show.
2. Walk north to the Rock again if you want the lit skyline (Empire State Building glowing, Central Park a dark void to the north). Best night photo: southwest rail, ESB centered.
10Evening: ferry back downtown → Brooklyn Bridge → DUMBOFerry + walk · ~1.5 hr total
1. Take the St. George route south from Pier 79 to Battery Park City/Vesey St (check the last boat — usually ~9–10 PM).
2. Walk east ~30 min through lower Manhattan to the Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian entrance at Park Row & Centre St (near City Hall).
3. Cross on the elevated wooden walkway (~1.1 mi, 30–40 min with photos). The lit skyline is on your right as you head to Brooklyn.
4. Descend into DUMBO. The postcard shot is at Washington St & Water St (Manhattan Bridge framed between buildings).
⚠ No ferry runs from DUMBO to New Jersey at night. Your return is a taxi/Uber from DUMBO to Cape Liberty (~45–60 min). Pre-arrange or order with a buffer.

5 · The Sight Cards (what to actually do, exact spots)

A9/11 Memorial & the Oculus180 Greenwich St · free · 30–45 min
Address / entrance
180 Greenwich St; enter from the plaza between Liberty & Albany Sts. Oculus: WTC Transportation Hub, Church & Fulton Sts.
Why
The twin reflecting pools mark the exact footprints of the towers — the largest man-made waterfalls in North America. The Oculus is Santiago Calatrava's white "dove" transit hub.
Do
Stand at the north corner of the north pool to frame both pools with One WTC behind. Touch the bronze names. Walk the Oculus interior for the white-ribs photo (best from the lower level looking up).
Skip
The 9/11 Museum ($33, timed, 2+ hours) — too much for a one-day stop unless pre-booked and deliberate.
Restrooms
Inside the Oculus, lower level (free). Use them — downtown has almost none.
Quietest
Before 10 AM.

Entrance
W 50th St between 5th & 6th Aves — red canopy, NOT the main 30 Rock lobby.
Why
The only deck where the Empire State Building is in your photo — plus the full Central Park view north. (This is why you skip the ESB deck itself.)
Do
Go straight to the open-air top tier. Southwest rail: ESB centered, One WTC beyond. North rail: Central Park. If you can, book golden-hour-to-dark and stay for the lights.
Restrooms
Clean, just inside before the elevators. Use them.

DUMBO shot
Washington St & Water St — the Manhattan Bridge framed between red-brick buildings. The single most famous photo on this route.
Return
Taxi/Uber from DUMBO to Cape Liberty (~45–60 min). No night ferry to NJ — don't plan on one.

6 · If You're Running Late (the cut list — what to drop, in order)

P0 · can't miss P1 · keep if possible P2 · drop first
P0 (never cut)
Top of the Rock (booked ticket), the Abschluss on ship at 4–6 PM.
P1
9/11 Memorial + Oculus, the Wall St walk, the ferry ride itself.
P2 (cut in this order)
1) Central Park loop → 2) daytime Times Square (it's on the evening loop anyway) → 3) Apple Store interior → 4) Wall St (keep only the Charging Bull photo) → 5) the whole evening loop.
Rule of thumb: 30 min behind by 1 PM → cut Central Park. 60 min behind by 1 PM → cut Wall St and go straight to the ferry.

7 · Get Me Back to the Ship

From anywhere on this route, here's the fastest way to Cape Liberty (4 Port Terminal Blvd, Bayonne NJ).

Downtown (WTC)
PATH to Exchange Place → light rail to 45th St → taxi to ship (~75 min, ~$8). Or taxi direct (~$70).
Midtown / Times Sq
Taxi/Uber direct (~$75, 45–60 min). Subway to WTC then PATH is the budget route.
Uptown / Central Park
1 train from 59th St–Columbus Circle to WTC, then PATH + light rail. Or taxi direct.

Taxi/Uber direct to Cape Liberty (~45–60 min).

8 · Good to Know

Restrooms
NYC has almost no free public toilets. Use: the Oculus (lower level), Top of the Rock (before elevators), Apple Store, Bethesda Terrace. Plan around them.
Heat / shade
August is brutal. Walk the shaded side (west side of avenues in the morning). Carry water; refill at the Apple Store or a deli.
Payment
Ferry = NYC Ferry app (not OMNY). Subway = OMNY tap-to-pay (contactless card/phone). Keep a physical card as backup.
Phone / data
Save this page offline (or screenshot the day clock) — subway tunnels and the port have dead zones.
Food (named, quick)
Downtown: Two Hands (45 Wall St, counter, AC). Midtown: a deli or food hall (The Hugh at 53rd). Don't eat in Times Square.
